At just 10 years old, Brooklyn Mae Carroll’s life was cut short while swimming at the lake because someone made the choice to drink and get behind the wheel. The sober passengers onboard allowed an impaired captain to operate the boat - a decision that took Brooklyn's life.

We’re working to make sure no other family endures the pain and heartbreak we've faced. Alcohol use is the leading known contributing factor in fatal boating incidents, and every one of those tragedies is 100% preventable.

For my daughter, Brooklyn Mae 💙

As a father and a NC State wildlife resource officer it is my responsibility to keep everyone safe so that everyone makes it back to the dock to keep making memories and enjoy the time we have left, with the people we have left, so that we can all enjoy the water another day.

For my daughter, B. I never want another family to experience the heartbreak and pain that I will carry for the rest of my life.

To honor one of the greatest people I've ever known.

In memory of your precious daughter, and my childhood best friend who was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 12 in April of 1988. I hate drinking and driving of any kind. I know and understand your pain. I am so sorry.

Too many children/adults are lost each year to reckless behavior. I will always be the DD (or DB)

For Brooklyn Mae, I choose safety as an act of love. I will ride only with a sober captain, speak up when it is not safe, and help everyone get home safely. One moment can ripple into a lifetime of pain, and I will never place any moment above another person's safety or future. 💙

I take the pledge to boat sober because I know what it means to lose someone, I love dearly my granddaughter, Brooklyn Mae. I choose sobriety not just for safety, but to honor her life, her laughter, and the love we shared.

Because it's something I believe in, and my buddy and I want to ensure fun, but safe, boating/PWC-ing for all of our friends who will be joining us. NOTE: I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter, Brooklyn Mae. Godspeed to you and your family.

I did not know this sweet little girl, but through pictures and videos I have seen that she was such a bright light and full of love and joy. I am taking the pledge to honor Brooklyn and her family. Thank you for sharing and to committing her memory to something so important.
